Making Suicide Prevention Everyone’s Business

The Workplace Pledge is an initiative created by The Baton of Hope that has been created for employers nationwide to pledge their support and sign, committing to ensuring their workplaces are psychologically safe for their employees to work in.

The Baton of Hope team has spent over two years developing our resources and training to deliver the best in practice amongst a sea of unregulated providers. Under pinned by established clinical models with input from clinicians, educators and subject matter experts with lived experience, the Workplace Pledge is:

  • Part of the UK’s largest suicide prevention initiative.
  • Accredited and includes certified training delivered by registered healthcare professionals.

Our online training, face-to-face workshops and courses have been delivered to thousands of our Pledgers. As part of the Workplace Pledge, employers can sign up to different levels which include different resources, support and hands-on training from The Baton of Hope team, which has been validated by healthcare professionals.

Why Sign Up to the Workplace Pledge?

For many organisations, knowing where to start with supporting their employees with their mental health can be daunting. They know they need to do something, but don’t know where to start. That’s why we’ve made it simple with The Workplace Pledge. Each organisation will get access to guidance, resources, print material and training to immediately implement within their organisations.

Exceeding Standards in Workplace Safety

While workplaces are not legally required to meet any requirements around suicide prevention and awareness in the workplace, the Workplace Pledge has been carefully designed to exceed both British and global occupational standards:

  • The ISO 45003 standard: organisations preventing work-related injury and ill health of their workers and other interested parties, and to promote wellbeing at work.
  • The BS 30480 Suicide and the Workplace standard: a framework for organisations to address suicide.

The Baton of Hope team has worked tirelessly to ensure our Workplace Pledge is fit for purpose and meets expectations of these nationally and globally-recognised standards to ensure employee mental health and wellbeing is a top priority for businesses signing up to it.

Making an Impact on Lives in the Workplace

The Baton of Hope is aware of how much of an impact poor mental health can have on businesses – from a productivity perspective, to the associated financial costs. But the statistics around suicide, along with the impact on businesses, cannot be ignored…

For businesses signing up to The Workplace Pledge, they are committing to the following:

Removing and eradicating the stigma around mental health in the workplace.
Increasing awareness of suicide.
Improving and doing their best to save lives.
Making suicide awareness, support and prevention a workplace priority.
